Theosophy News Worldwide 1st Quarter 2015

This issue was published on 2015-04-03 or 8 years 9 months ago.

Editorial

Steven Otto

Dear friends of Theosophy,

12 month ago the first Issue of "Theosophy World News" was published. Since then, four issues later, over 500 pieces of international theosophy-relates news, articles, videos, magazines and books were collected and were seen by Thousands of visitors.

Although this issue has not a "Theme of the quarter", in the previous issues of 2014, the election of the international president of the TS-Adyar (to times), the declaration of Naarden and the question "Justified criticism or malicious feud?" were particularly discussed.

And we had an eye on what non-theosophical sites published about Theosophy. If you can see in this issue's "non-theosophical sites"-section, in the last quarter the Fincial Times, HuffingtonPost, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, The Observer and many other websites mentioned Theosophy, not always accurate and positive, but it get's more and more better.

And in this issue, you can again find a lot of stuff to read for the next three months. And a few favorites of mine, that I noticed were "Theosophy vs Modern Science, Exploding Modern Theories" from Theosophy Watch, wich points out interesting evidence for Plasma Cosmology within the original Theosophical Teachings, a nice article in the current issue of "Theosophy in Australia" named "The Good Life: Dream or Reality?" (pdf) and quotes from the Teachings about Theosophy on Sexual Relations, Procreation, and Purity from BlavatskyTheosophyUK.

The latter was also a matter, which I dealt and the results can bee read in the article The virtues: abstinence or renunciation. Beside this I wrote a little history of family, within the article The family: from Antiquity up to Postmodernism. And did you know, that there is scientific proof that to live a virtuous life makes you happier? No? Then read: The Philosophy of Happiness.

What's left to say is due technical problems all my emails before February 2014 that reached me at my theosophical email adress were lost, a tragedy, and also the reason that some articles will remain unwritten and not everything that reached me via mail could be published. And, to finish with a positive note: The increased focus on the topic of virtues and ethics regarding to theosophy, which I noticed during my current collection, is a very positive development, that should be further advanced.
But now I wish you a beautiful spring and interesting reading.

With kind regards from Germany

Steven Otto

Bitter row splits spiritual group after protest at lock-out

A bitter feud has erupted in Devon as members wrestle for control of a peaceful society dedicated to the study of religion, science and philosophy. The neo-theosophy of Lyndi Sales: an interview with Maria Lund Gallery

She manages to assign her audience the task of interpreting and perceiving the world; to identify the elements that bind us together, alongside all the physical aspects that the world has to offer. She calls it Neo-theosophy. It’s an approach that simultaneously establishes a relationship between the physical and astral body.

Movie: Awake: The Life of Yogananda more hagiography than biopic

“This earth is nothing but movies to me,” said Paramahansa Yogananda in his best-selling Autobiography of a Yogi, calling life itself “nothing but shadows and light”. Film is a natural medium, then, to convey the famous teacher’s life. But Awake: The Life of Yogananda is a mixed blessing: an intriguing overview for those who know very little or a lot about the man and his message; frustratingly incomplete for everyone in between.

The variety of miniature Scriabin wrote over his career is considerable. Taking cues from Chopin, Liszt, and Wagner, Scriabin extended and expanded the idiom of romantic piano music. The silliness that is Theosophy

To my shame, in retrospect, I ended two of my articles with the TS catch phrase “There is no religion higher than the truth” and alluded to it in another. To be true, religion and philosophy must offer the solution of every problem. That the world is in such a bad condition morally is a conclusive evidence that none of its religions and philosophies--those of the civilized races less than any other--have ever possessed the TRUTH. The right and logical explanations on the subject of the problems of the great dual principles, right and wrong, good and evil, liberty and despotism, pain and pleasure, egotism and altruism, are as impossible to them now as they were 1880 years ago. They are as far from the solution as they ever were, but. . . . "To these there must be somewhere a consistent solution, and if our doctrines will show their competence to offer it, then the world will be the first one to confess, that ours must be the true philosophy, the true religion, the true light, which gives truth and nothing but the TRUTH. . . .

From the article "The Theosophical Society: Its Mission and Its Future" by H. P. Blavatsky, published in Lucifer, August 1888 and especially this paragraph HPB has quoted from the so-called "Maha Cohan Letter".
